7th Annual Pickin’ N Pullin’ BBQ Competition

The Park will still be open to the public but we will respect the Governor’s orders to not gather in groups of 10 or more.
The 7th Annual Pickin’ N Pullin’ BBQ Competition will take place on Friday, April 24th – Saturday, April 25th, 2020. This competition is for both casual backyard grillers as well as seasoned pros and will be held at Rockahock Campground 1428 Outpost Road Lanexa, VA 23089.
After hosting 33 professional KCBS teams and 40 Backyard BBQ teams last year, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2020! The Backyard BBQ Competition is a perfect solution for testing out your skills and getting some real feedback from the judges. But honestly, the only thing that is required to enter as a Pro Team is more money. The entry fee is a little bit steeper, but so are the rewards.
This year cook/camping sites will be assigned as you arrive. If you want to camp near a friend you must show up together. We do separate Pro Teams, Backyard Teams, and General Public in an effort to stay organized and communicate with teams when needed.
We are once again doing the Friday Night Steak Cookoff Association Competition (SCA) . This is a Steak competition that both Pro & Backyard Teams compete in for the same prize pool. The regular SCA entry fee is $150.00 but any BBQ team (Pro or Backyard) that signs up for the Friday Night Steak Cookoff will receive a $50 discount. Discounts are limited to one (1) per team but other team members are welcome to sign up individually. We will provide teams with 2 steaks (SCA Standards) and a turn-in box. Cooking/Campsite:
Friday night’s campsite is included with a PNP Pro Team or Backyard BBQ Entry fee. You can arrive as early as 9:00 AM on Friday morning. Check out time is 7:00 PM on Saturday. If you wish to arrive earlier than Friday night you must check-in at the office during normal business hours. We will escort you to the first available site. In an effort to stay organized and fit more teams in we will assign cook sites as teams arrive. If you wish to cook/camp near another team (in the same competition) you must arrive together. If you wish to stay Saturday night or longer please make arrangements after you arrive but before check – out time on Saturday at 7:00 PM. The cooking sites are actual RV campsites. Most of them have gravel driveways and grass yards. Campsites are roughly 50 to 70 feet by 25 feet. Most come with water hook-ups, sewer connections and 50/30 amp electric outlets (we sell 30 amp to 110 adapters in our store but they can be purchased at Walmart or Amazon as well). Rockahock also offers cable TV connections and Wi-Fi on most sites. Because sites will be assigned as teams arrive we cannot guarantee your site will have cable TV or Wi-Fi access.
PS – Rockahock has Cottage, Villa and Yurt Rentals, but hurry they go quick!
Meats:
A) Pro Teams will cook Chicken, Pork Ribs (Baby Back or St. Louis), Pork (butt or shoulder) and Brisket. All teams must provide their own meats. Meats will be inspected upon arrival by Rockahock staff.
B) Backyard Teams will cook Pork Ribs (Baby Back or St. Louis) & Pork (butt or shoulder). All teams must provide their own meats. Meats will be inspected upon arrival by Rockahock staff.
C) Steak Cookoff Association Teams will hand pick two ribeyes during the cooks meeting. You must use these steaks and not ones you bring with you.

Judging:
Will be blind judging by SCA Judges on Friday night, and blind judging by KCBS judges on Saturday. Because we often have more Backyard Teams than Pro Teams, we may find the need to use a campground guest to help judge the Backyard Competition to ensure all teams have a fair number of judges. We always encourage the judges to fill out comment cards so you get feedback to sharpen your skills.
